PLACES OF INTEREST IN KUCHING, SARAWAK


1. Cat Museum , Kuching

Kuching or fondly known as "Cat City" is home to the world first cat museum. Its houses an assortment of information associated with the furry feline, from factual information, to history, legends, and trivia. 

Spread over four galleries, this museum showcases more than 4000 exhibits such as paintings, photos, feline art pieces, and souvenir. This museum is situated in the Kuching City North City Hall Building.

Entrance Fee : Free Of Charge



2. Semenggoh Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre

This centre was established to rehabilitate orang utan, that were injured, orphaned, or kept illegally before they are reintroduced to the surrounding jungle. 

The best times for visit are during the feeding sessions at 9.00 am and 3.00 pm when the semi- wild primates return for the meal. This centre situated about 24km from Kuching.

Entrance Fee : Rm5.00 Adult (Malaysian) / Rm3.00 Child / Rm10.00 Adult (Non- Malaysian)


3. The Brooke Gallery @ Fort Magherita
Opened on 24 September 2016, the 175th anniversary of the founding of the state, the Brooke Gallery tells the story of one of the most remarkable kingdoms in history : that of Sarawak under its White Rajahs.

This permannent exhibition at Fort Magherita has been sponsored by the Brooke Trust, which has also been responsible for its design and installation, in collaboration with the Sarawak Museum and with the support of a small army of local volunteers.

Inside you will embark upon a thematic journey that will leave you in no doubt as why Sarawak's history under its White Rajahs ranks as the most exceptional in all of South East Asia.
Opening hours are as follows :
Monday - Friday
9.00am - 4.45pm
Saturday, Sunday & Public Holidays
10.00am - 4.00pm

Entrance Fee : Rm10.00 (Adult), Rm5.00 (Child)


4. Bako National Park, Kuching

Bako National Park is ideal for day trips because of its proximity to the city. Its also said to be the best place to start your discovery of the state's rainforest.

Among the occupants if this national park are the rare probosics monkey, long tailed macaquea, leaf monkey, monitor lizards, plantain squirrels, and about 150 species of birds.

Accomodation is available in the form of forest hostels and lodges.



5. Sarawak Cultural Village, Santubong

It is a cultural microcosm of entire state. Dubbed as a 'living museum' the village showcase the lifestyles and traditional dwellings of the major ethnic groups in Sarawak.

Among the items on display are cooking utensils, traditional tools, musical instruments, and many more.

The highlights of the visits here is the cultural performance held at 11.30am & 4.00pm daily.



6. Jong's Crocodile Farm And The Zoo.

Jong’s crocodile farm & zoo is the first & largest captive breeding crocodile farm in Malaysia. Set amidst the charming backdrop of tall tropical trees, lush vegetaion and local fruit trees, lie this unique farm with over two thousand crocodiles bred in captivity. The farm provides a perfect sanctuary for the reptiles, saving the species from extinction. There are few natural breeding ponds for the crocodiles to mate and multiple.

Visitors are able to gaze at the snapping jaws, cold menacing eyes, sharp pointed teeth and powerful lashing tails of the crocs within short distance yet safe becasue of the metal fence. Apart from crocodiles, there are also numerous rare species of birds and animals found only in the Borneo Island.

Visitors can have the enchanting experience of walking freely among the monkeys, leopard-cats, sunbears, bearcats, pheasants, civets, barking deers, sambar deers, turtles, fruit bats, monitor lizards, pythons and even sourthern cassowary.

Situated at 18 1/2 Miles (29KM) Kuching Serian Highway, a 20 minutes leisure drive from Kuching, the capital of Sarawak.

Experience feeding live crocodiles at our daily (11.00am & 3.00pm) feeding demonstrations located at one of our many saltwater crocodile ponds! Watch, with your own eyes, majestic crocodiles leaping several feet into the air from the swamp! Get up close and personal to feel the gush of wind coming from their massive bites and the splashes from their giant leaps. But don't worry, we assure you that it's completely safe.

7. Santubong Wildlife Cruise, Santubong

The Santubong penisular beckons with a delightful attraction- dolphin watching. The shallow coastal areas and estuaries make good habitats for the rare Irrawady Dolphins.

Although sightings are not guaranteed, the serene views along the river will keep visitorsnfascinated. Journey will start at 5.00 pm till 7.00 pm. We will looking for probosics monkey and wild crocodile.
